New AI Shakes Up Gaming: Meet Microsoft’s Muse

Imagine AI making game visuals! Yes, it’s now real. Microsoft and Ninja Theory teamed up. They built a brand-new AI model called Muse. Amazingly, it can create gameplay scenes. Furthermore, it can predict what players might do next. Microsoft believes this is a huge leap for AI in gaming.

Muse’s Brain: Trained to Understand Games

This clever AI actually learned by watching. It studied over a billion images. These pictures came from the video game “Bleeding Edge.” Moreover, Muse observed how players controlled the game. Consequently, it now understands 3D game worlds. It also gets how physics works in games. It can even respond to player actions. Microsoft calls Muse a special name. They call it a “WHAM” model. That stands for “World and Human Action Model.”

Muse’s Early Stage: But Still Impressive

However, keep in mind Muse is still in its early days. The game images aren’t super detailed yet. They show up as small, low-resolution visuals. Think of 300×180 pixels. Additionally, in a live demo, it ran at only 10 frames per second. Microsoft researchers shared these details. So, it is a work in progress, for sure.

Future of Games? Preservation and Creation

But, think about older games for a moment. Muse might just help save them! Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, thinks this is possible. Perhaps Muse can make classic games playable on modern consoles. This could happen without needing the original game systems. Beyond that, game makers could use Muse to design new games faster. It can speed up early game ideas and building.

AI as a Tool, Not a Threat: Ninja Theory’s View

Many wonder: will AI take game jobs? This is a worry in the industry. Especially after recent job losses. But Ninja Theory says relax. Dom Matthews, who leads the studio, clarified things. He says Muse is not for making game content directly. Instead, it can help human developers. The goal is to make game creation quicker. It’s about making the process easier for their talented team.

Experience AI Gaming: Copilot Labs and Xbox Plans

Want to see AI gaming in action? Microsoft plans to let you try it out. They will offer some interactive AI game demos. These will be available through Copilot Labs. However, they haven’t announced exactly when. Each Xbox game studio will also get to decide. They can choose how to use AI in their own games. So, each team has the freedom to explore.
