Google is making it easier to manage calls on Android devices with a new feature for its Phone app. The company is rolling out filters that will sort incoming calls based on their type, helping users better organize their call logs. Whether it’s spam, missed calls, or contacts, the feature aims to reduce the clutter and make it simpler to find important calls without sifting through endless numbers.
According to reports, the Phone app will now categorize calls into distinct groups such as all calls, missed calls, contacts, spam, and non-spam. This is a huge upgrade from the previous version, where all calls were displayed in one continuous list. By using the new filters, users will be able to pinpoint specific calls faster—without the need to scroll through a sea of unknown numbers or spam.
The feature is part of a recent update to the Phone app, first introduced in beta last month, and is now being rolled out to all Android users. While the feature is already live for many, it’s believed to be a server-side update, meaning it could take a little time to reach every user. So far, even Google’s Pixel devices have not confirmed the update’s widespread availability.
Limitations and Future Updates
While the call filters are a helpful addition, the current version doesn’t offer users the ability to search for calls based on whether they were incoming or outgoing. The filters are limited to just a few categories, and there is no custom search option yet. However, this could change with future updates, as the feature continues to evolve.
This new feature builds on Google’s ongoing efforts to tackle spam calls and enhance user convenience. In addition to the call filters, Google has rolled out other measures like the Call Screen feature on Pixel devices. This allows an automated agent to screen calls, providing information about the caller and even offering a transcription of the conversation. It helps users decide whether they want to answer a call from an unknown number.
Additionally, the reverse lookup feature lets users identify unknown callers, further reducing the chances of receiving spam.
A Step Toward Cleaner Call Logs
With the increasing number of spam calls, Google’s latest update is a welcome addition for Android users. Call filtering will make it easier to stay on top of important calls while keeping unwanted ones out of sight. What do you think of these updates?
