Former Bangladesh player, Imrul Kayes, thinks India might be weaker. Big fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not play. Kayes believes this helps Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy opener on February 20. While India is favored, Bangladesh hasn’t played well lately in ODIs.

Kayes said India has a strong team, with good bowlers and batters. However, Bumrah’s absence is a big deal. He reminded everyone about Bumrah’s amazing performance for India in recent years. Because of this, Kayes feels Bangladesh has a real chance now.

But Watch Out for Shami!

Without Bumrah, Mohammed Shami will lead India’s fast bowling. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh will also be there. Kayes mentioned Shami is a major player. Even if Shami isn’t at his peak fitness, he can still be dangerous for Bangladesh if he finds his form.

Since Shakib isn’t playing, Kayes expects vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz to be the main all-rounder. Kayes admires Mehidy’s courage and champion attitude from when he first joined the team. Mehidy believes in himself, no matter who the opponent is.

Mehidy’s Versatility is Key

Kayes pointed out Mehidy can bat anywhere in the order. He even opened in the 2018 Asia Cup final against India, just like Shakib can bat anywhere. Therefore, Mehidy is likely to cover Shakib’s role in the team.

However, Kayes stressed that Bangladesh will definitely miss Shakib’s bowling. Shakib is a valuable left-arm spinner. His bowling impact is extremely important for Bangladesh.
