Huawei has just unveiled its latest innovation, the Mate XT Ultimate Design, a triple-folding smartphone that promises to change the way we think about foldable devices. Initially revealed in China in September 2024, this unique handset is now making its debut in select global markets. However, Huawei has yet to confirm when—or if—the phone will launch in India.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is priced at AED 12,999 (approximately Rs. 3,07,800) in the UAE, and it comes in a 16GB RAM + 1TB storage configuration. The device is currently available for purchase through Huawei’s official website, with deliveries set to begin on February 25. You can choose between two striking color options: black and red.
At the heart of the Mate XT Ultimate Design is its revolutionary triple-folding display. When fully unfolded, the device boasts a large 10.2-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 3,184×2,232 pixels. When folded, it transforms into two smaller screens: a 7.9-inch display (resolution 2,048×2,232 pixels) when folded once, and a compact 6.4-inch screen (resolution 1,008×2,232 pixels) when folded a second time.
This flexibility doesn’t compromise on performance either. The display supports a 90Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 1,440Hz PWM dimming rate. With a pixel density of 382ppi, it promises vibrant colors and smooth interaction, whether you’re using it unfolded or folded.
While Huawei hasn’t confirmed the global version’s chipset, the Chinese variant of the Mate XT Ultimate Design is powered by the in-house Kirin 9010 SoC. The phone is equipped with a massive 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, making it an absolute powerhouse for multitasking and heavy usage.
The device runs on EMUI 14.2, Huawei’s custom Android-based operating system, offering a smooth and feature-rich experience for users.
When it comes to photography, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design packs a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.2 to f/4.0. Alongside this, there’s a 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter (f/2.2 aperture) and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5.5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom for sharp, detailed long-range shots.
For selfies and video calls, the device is equipped with an 8-megapixel front camera (f/2.2 aperture). Whether you’re capturing landscapes or taking close-up shots, the Mate XT Ultimate Design has the right camera setup to meet your needs.
The Mate XT Ultimate Design packs a generous 5,600mAh battery, ensuring it can handle the power demands of its massive screen and advanced features. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, ensuring that you’re back up and running quickly.
In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port, making it ready for modern needs. It also comes with an IPX8 rating for water resistance, providing peace of mind when using the phone around water.
For security, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for quick and easy unlocking. The device is quite robust, measuring 156.7 x 219 x 3.6mm when fully unfolded and weighing in at 298g—a testament to its premium build quality.
With its innovative triple-folding design, impressive camera system, and top-tier specifications, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is undoubtedly a flagship device that pushes the boundaries of what foldable smartphones can do. Whether or not it will arrive in India remains uncertain, but its launch in other markets has already set a new bar for foldable technology.
