Finland, Latvia: EU Unity Vital for Kyiv Rearmament

Finland’s Leader Calls for Stronger Action on Ukraine

European leaders are pushing for tougher moves against Russia. Finland’s President Alexander Stubb spoke out on Sunday. He urged for more weapons for Ukraine. Also, he wants stronger sanctions on Russia. Freezing Russian assets is another key step, he said.

Time for Action, Not Just Talk, Says President

During the Munich Security Conference, Stubb wasn’t alone. Other European leaders also want real change. They are figuring out how the EU can truly make a difference. Washington is pushing to end the war. Europe needs to show its strength and act decisively. Stubb outlined a three-step plan for peace. This includes pre-negotiations, a ceasefire, and long-term talks.

Arm Ukraine to Negotiate from Strength

"The first step is before negotiations even begin," Stubb stated. "We must rearm Ukraine right now." He believes in maximizing pressure on Russia. This way, Ukraine can enter talks with power, he explained. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for Europe to be more proactive. "We need to do more and talk less," he declared.

Latvia Echoes the Call for Decisive Steps

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics also agrees. Latvia, like Finland, shares a border with Russia. Rinkevics said strength is key to being taken seriously. "If we are strong and offer something valuable, the US will be interested in working with us", he mentioned. Otherwise, just talking and complaining will not help. It might even make people lose interest, he warned.
