State of Play: PS5 Sci-Fi Unveiled

Rajiv SinghGaming3 weeks ago7 Views

Wow, time flies! We’re already halfway through the first part of 2025. Game companies are now showing off their awesome new games. These titles will arrive soon and in 2026. Just recently, Sony had a State of Play event and showed some cool games. Many of these games take place in space!

Outer space games are super popular right now. It’s almost too much to keep up with all of them! So many look really promising. Last December, we talked about big sci-fi games from The Game Awards. But guess what? There are even more exciting games to add to that list.

Before we dive into the top three space games from the show, let’s mention two others quickly. First, there is Split Fiction. This is a new co-op adventure. Hazelight Studios, the creators of It Takes Two, made it. Second, Metal Eden looks intense. It’s a fast-paced first-person shooter in a dark city. They are not exactly space games, but they still feel sci-fi. These games look so cool, and we can’t wait to try them!

Borderlands 4 (Gearbox)

Get ready for some crazy action in space! Borderlands 4 looks like one of the best upcoming games. Forget slow exploration. This game is all about shooting and grabbing loot. If you love fast, exciting gameplay, put this on your radar.

Gearbox needs to impress with this game. Borderlands 3 was a bit of a letdown for some. And that movie last year? Yikes! This new trailer is way better though. It really makes us excited about the new characters. Their skills and the gunplay seem improved and feel more intense.

We still need to learn about the story and new game features. But, this preview makes us much more hopeful for Borderlands 4. Good news! It comes out on September 23, 2025. You can play it on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Directive 8020 (Supermassive Games)

Supermassive makes scary games in The Dark Pictures series. Directive 8020 is the next one and it’s been on our minds. The story was secret, but not anymore! They just released a creepy trailer for Directive 8020. It clearly takes ideas from space horror movies. Think scary stuff like The Thing. Plus a spooky ship like from Event Horizon. It might borrow ideas, but it looks amazing and fun!

Big news for space horror fans! Directive 8020 will launch on September 30, 2025. That’s just one week after Borderlands 4. Get ready to be scared just in time for Halloween! It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Sorry, old consoles, you’re not invited this time.

Saros (Housemarque)

We saved a really good one for the end! Housemarque made Returnal back in 2021, which was awesome. So any new game from them is exciting. Saros didn’t show gameplay this time. But we are still totally excited. Returnal mixed story, sci-fi mystery, tough action, and roguelike stuff really well. Saros looks like it’s going even further!

This was the only big new game shown from PlayStation itself. They said it will arrive in 2026. It will also look extra great on the PS5 Pro. You might have questions after seeing the trailer. British actor Rahul Kohli is in it, facing a huge monster on an alien planet. Here is the story: You play as Arjun Devraj on planet Carcosa. A scary eclipse is coming. You are searching for answers about a lost colony. It honestly sounds like a perfect game to play if you love space adventures like Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic game.
