Looking for something fun and free? Wetaskiwin Public Library is the place to be! They offer awesome activities for all ages. No matter your interest, they have you covered.
Something for Every Age Group
Library Director Christine Hutchinson says it best. “We have programs for everyone,” she says. The library focuses on learning, reading, and bringing people together.
For little ones and families, story time is a blast! Kids also enjoy hands-on STEAM activities. Plus, every summer, a reading club encourages kids to love books. Teens have their own cool clubs and events. They can volunteer and even lead activities.
But adults are not left out! Book clubs are popular. Need tech help? They got it. Craft sessions and parent groups are also available. Interesting guest speakers cover many topics too.
More Than Just Books for Seniors
Seniors are especially cared for. The library has a special Homebound Program. They deliver books right to those who can’t visit. Throughout the year, seasonal events bring joy to everyone. Best part? All library programs are completely free!
Open Doors and Tech Help
The library welcomes you six days a week. They are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday hours are until 5 p.m. Need help with your phone or email? Book a 30-minute tech session! These happen Mondays and Wednesdays.
Crafts and Tea Time Fun
Love crafting? Join “Stichin’ in the Shack”! Learn knitting, crocheting, and more. It’s also a great spot to sew with friends. Seniors can also enjoy tea time. It is a perfect way to socialize and get out.
Home School Support and Resources
Wetaskiwin Library helps home-schooled students too! Weather permitting, many students come each week. Hutchinson explained weather impacts attendance as families live in the county. However, students and parents are always excited to attend.
The library offers stories and STEAM projects for kids. Parents learn about resources that support home learning. Novel study kits are a big help. These include books, workbooks, and teacher guides. Themed literacy kits and online resources are also available with a library card.
Teen Time and Awesome Events
Teens are a big focus at this library. They have their own special area! “Teen Time” happens Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Teens can relax, craft, play video games, or just hang out. Anime club meets every Monday evening.
Additionally, “Teen takeover nights” are super fun after-hours events. Imagine a Nerf gun war in January! A Mario Kart tournament is planned for March too.
Holiday Fun and Special Days
Throughout the year, the library hosts events for holidays. Mother’s and Father’s Day celebrations are coming up. “We’re having a Mother’s Day Tea on May 10th,” Hutchinson announced. Enjoy treats, tea, and good company. Space is limited, so register online or call.
For Father’s Day, something unique is planned. On June 14th, meet the Knights of the Northern Realm! This Edmonton group brings 14th-century history to life. Learn about knight’s armor and weapons. Everyone is welcome to attend this exciting event!
