Instagram Introduces New Features to Enhance Direct Messaging Experience
Instagram has unveiled several exciting updates for its Direct Messages (DMs) that will make messaging more efficient, fun, and user-friendly. The new features, announced on Wednesday, include translation capabilities, message scheduling, easier music sharing, and more options for managing conversations.
One of the standout additions is the ability to translate messages in 1:1 chats. Whether you’re chatting with a friend in another language or need to understand a foreign language message, Instagram now supports translations in 99 languages. This feature aims to bridge communication gaps, making it easier to interact with people worldwide. Messages that are translated are shared with Meta to improve the translation service.
Instagram has also added a much-requested feature: message scheduling. Now, users can schedule messages and reminders for later delivery. The process is simple—just hold down the send button, select the desired date and time, and your message will be sent automatically. This update mirrors similar features that have been introduced on other platforms, such as iOS 18.
Managing important conversations just got easier. While Instagram previously allowed users to pin up to three chats at the top of their inbox, the app now lets users pin individual messages as well. To use this feature, hold down on any message, select the “Pin” option, and keep important conversations readily accessible.
For music lovers, Instagram has made it easier to share your latest finds. Now, you can send a 30-second preview of any song directly in your DMs, without leaving the chat. Whether you’re sending tracks to a friend in a 1:1 conversation or a group chat, this feature will keep the conversation going without the hassle of switching apps. Simply open the sticker tray, tap the ‘Music’ option, and search for your favorite song.
Instagram is also rolling out a new way to join group chats: personalized QR codes. Users can now generate a unique QR code for any group chat, which others can scan to join. This feature eliminates the need for adding individual members one by one, making it much more convenient for group conversations.
With these new features, Instagram is aiming to make direct messaging a more versatile and enjoyable experience. Whether you’re translating messages, scheduling chats, or sharing music, these updates are sure to enhance how you connect with others. As Instagram continues to roll out these features, the platform is solidifying its place as one of the most interactive social media apps.
