Elon Musk’s Bold Offer to Wikipedia: Still on the Table!
Guess what? Elon Musk is at it again with Wikipedia! You know, he’s the guy behind Tesla and SpaceX. He’s restated his crazy offer to give Wikipedia a cool billion dollars. However, there’s a condition – they have to change their name.
It all started with a tweet, like many things these days. A user online asked Musk if his offer was still real. Quickly, Musk responded, “Offer still stands.” He even urged Wikipedia to just go for it!
Let’s take a trip back in time to October last year. That’s when Musk first joked about this name change. He tweeted he would donate a billion dollars if Wikipedia became “Dickipedia.” Yes, you read that right!
This time, the tweet reminding everyone was shared. It included a screenshot of Musk’s original, rather cheeky, tweet from way back when.
Besides the name offer, Musk also poked fun at Wikipedia. You see, Wikipedia often asks users for donations. Someone online shared a funny picture about this. It showed a person with a ‘Wikipedia head’ looking for cash.
Musk chimed in, responding “Every time” with a smiley. He seems to find it amusing when Wikipedia asks for money.
So, why is Musk pushing for this name change and joking about donations? Well, it connects to something else. Last year, Musk told his followers to stop donating to Wikipedia’s foundation.
He believes they spend too much on “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” stuff. Basically, Musk wants Wikipedia to focus on different things. He even responded to a post criticizing Wikipedia’s budget allocations.
That same day he was talking about the name change, he urged people to halt donations. Then, in November 2024, it came up again. Someone shared Musk’s original tweet, and he confirmed, “Offer still stands.” So, the “Dickipedia” offer is still a thing, believe it or not!
