Epic Games Store: Grows Bigger and Bolder in 2024

2024 was a big year for the Epic Games Store! They just shared their yearly report and it sounds good. More games and more players joined the platform. Let’s check out the highlights.

User Numbers Skyrocket

A massive 295 million people used the Epic Games Store in 2024. This is a jump of 25 million from the year before. In addition, the whole “Epic ecosystem” grew too. It now boasts 898 million accounts across all platforms. That’s up by 94 million from 2023. It’s clear, more and more gamers are joining Epic.

Game Library Explodes

But get this, 1,100 brand new games launched on Epic in 2024! This pushed the total game count to over 4,000. It’s surprising how many games are now on the store. Steam still has way more new releases, nearly 19,000 in 2024. However, Epic is definitely catching up. This growth came from their easy-to-use publishing tools. Also, their exclusive deals and programs for older games helped a lot. They continue to attract both players and developers.

Free Games Galore Continue

Even though Epic faced some money problems in 2023, they kept giving away free games! Gamers claimed over 595 million free games in 2024. This is up from 586 million the previous year. Epic says this adds up to $2,229 in value per player. The good news? Free games are here to stay in 2025, both on PC and even mobile!

Store Improvements on the Horizon

The Epic Games Store app can still be a bit slow. Epic mentioned they made loading time faster in 2023. It is better, but still a bit sluggish. They are working on making it even smoother in 2025. A download manager is coming soon, in early 2025. This will let you control updates and organize downloads. Expect other helpful changes too.

Furthermore, gifting and pre-loading are on the way. Expect a better search and browsing experience as well. Plus, social features are getting a big upgrade. Think voice chat, text chat, and easier ways to find groups to play with across all platforms.
