Years of Planning Culminate in Approval
After years of failed attempts, a major new golf resort near St Andrews has finally received the green light. Local councillors recently approved plans for the development at Feddinch Mains, a site just two miles from the iconic town and nestled beside the Duke’s Course.
A New Era for Feddinch Mains
For over two decades, various developers tried and failed to transform Feddinch Mains. However, a recent multi-million-pound sale to global professional services company Alvarez and Marsal Golf sparked new life into the project. They presented a comprehensive masterplan, which has now been fully approved.
A Golfing Paradise in the Making
The plan includes an 18-hole championship course, a shorter par-three course, a practice range, and a clubhouse complete with a hotel. Additionally, six detached guest cottages, a greenkeepers service yard, and a half-way house will cater to golfers’ every need.
More Than Just Golf
The developers also secured approval to convert a farmhouse on the site into a versatile events space. This will add another dimension to the resort, offering a unique venue for gatherings and celebrations.
Bringing Life Back to a Derelict Site
According to Alvarez and Marsal Golf, Feddinch Mains has remained unused for over 20 years despite numerous proposals. Despite its current unfinished state, substantial work is already underway to bring the golf course development to life.
A Commitment to the Community
Tyler J Kirsch, managing director of Alvarez and Marsal Golf, expressed his delight at the approval. He emphasized the extensive consultation with local authorities, the community, and stakeholders. Kirsch is confident the project will bring lasting benefits to the area and highlighted their commitment to ongoing engagement throughout the development process.
A New Chapter Begins
Alvarez and Marshal Golf acquired the Feddinch Mains site from Dundee United FC owner Mark Ogren for £7 million in 2022. With construction underway, the new resort is poised to become a thriving hub for golf enthusiasts and a welcome addition to the St Andrews landscape.
