You’ve heard whispers, noticed cryptic social media posts, and maybe even your autopay for JioCinema stopped working. Could a massive new streaming platform be just around the corner? All signs point to yes – a platform combining the power of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema.
Earlier this week, JioStar, the joint venture between Viacom18 and Star India, posted a short teaser video on X (formerly Twitter). Though the tweet has been removed, screenshots reveal the message: “A new era begins!”. Followed by “Stay tuned,” the teaser certainly sparked speculation about a major announcement. The caption simply asked, “What happens when two worlds of entertainment merge in the universe?”
Many are now calling this upcoming platform “JioHotstar,” although nothing official has been confirmed.
Adding fuel to the fire, several JioCinema users, including staff at Gadgets 360, reported that their autopay subscription renewals were canceled. This could mean JioCinema is preparing to sunset its current service, making room for the combined offering.
However, some users mentioned being able to purchase new monthly subscriptions, leaving room for a phased transition.
This exciting news comes after Reliance Industries Limited and Walt Disney officially merged their India businesses in November 2024. This merger created a powerful joint venture, combining the strength of Disney’s content library with Reliance’s vast reach and technological expertise.
The news of a combined streaming platform has been met with enthusiasm. Would you be excited to see a single platform offering everything from Disney classics to Bollywood blockbusters and Indian sports?
Keep checking back for more updates! We expect to hear official confirmation about JioHotstar soon.
